Beach Still Life

Driftwood is scattered about on the beach of Lake Superior. Guests previous to us staying at Lake Shore Cabins must have collected driftwood and left it behind.

Beach Combing

Today we returned to my favorite place in the world... Lake Shore Cabins on Lake Superior. My son and Nellie are with us on this outing. They wasted no time walking the beach looking for treasures, nor did I, getting out my camera.

Moon Flower

I walked by the moon flowers growing along side the deck this evening and I noticed that they had started to open up. When I walked by them again a minute later they had opened up completely. It seems impossible they could have opened up that fast. Regardless I grab my camera and started photographing them. I was not sure what I was going to get as the sun was fading fast. I like my results.

Star Bursts

I have been photographing the inside of the zinnias that are growing in my yard for about a month. Today was my day to finally capture what I have been looking for.... Sharp and vibrant!

Morning Glory

I found morning glories making their way up through a bed of coneflowers. The flowers in the background made this photo just that much more colorful.

Summer Relaxation

The summer is waning and it won't be long until the kids are in school. This group of boaters decided to relax in the water on a hot August afternoon..an activity repeated all over the Lake Country Area due to the weather.

The Abstract Nature of Things

I really like the abstract nature of this photo. From the translucent, rice paper-like flower with the light green splines to the gauzy free form background colors...I'm often amazed by what I can capture with my camera.

Belladonna Amaryllis

This gorgeous flower has the most unusual beginnings. In the spring it emerges into long slender green leaves and dies back by mid summer. In late summer, leafless stems produce elegant, pink flowers.

Test of Time

There is an old barn on Waukesha County property not to far from where I live. I'm taking the opportunity to photograph details of the barn before it's torn down. The house and a one of the barns has already been demolished.

Moon Shadows

I had a camera malfunction today. I shot a number of different subjects today and when it came time to chose and edit a photo I had nothing. At 10:00 PM I'm out on my deck shooting in the moon light.

Altocumulus Clouds

When arriving to work the first thing I did was photograph the sky that was filled with these really interesting altocumulus clouds. The photo reminds me of a Rene Magritte painting.

Natures Water Vessels

I love going outdoors to photograph after it rains. You never know what you are going to find. These free form water droplets add beauty and splendor to the leaves that hold them.

Man with a View

I noticed this sculpture while driving along Lake Shore Drive this evening. It's on a bluff over looking Lake Michigan in the Village of Shorewood. The sculpture is called Spillover II by Jaume Plensa. Love it!

My daughter and I went to IKEA today to do a bit of shopping. We picked up needed items for her new home. As you can see our trip was quite successful.

Pinwheel

This angel trumpet that is about to open reminds me of a pinwheel. I tried a square format for this photo. It seems to best frame the flower.

Queen Anne's Lace

It was gray overcast day so I picked a bunch of queen anne's lace and turned to my mini studio to take my photo of the day. I found the under side of the flower more interesting then the top. The results are interesting, however, I truly prefer using natural light for my photography then bounced flash.

Unraveling

I strolled around the yard this evening hunting for that right shot. It was overcast, creating soft filtered light making it perfect for photographing flowers. This type of light helped to bring out the brilliant color of this summer phlox.

Pistilli

It was another morning with heavy dew covering most everything. The flowers from the hostas have form and are starting to open. I caught this one with the pistilli protruding from a flower that has not opened quite yet.
