Spalted Wood

I took a quick walk down to the lake this afternoon and found this colorful piece of wood.  Aha... my photo of the day. My husband seems to think it's spalted wood. Spalting is any form of wood coloration caused by fungi.

Hyacinths

Love the hyacinths, they are a popular spring time flower. I stopped at Sendik's to pick up lunch today. They had flowers for sale outside the store. The hyacinths were so colorful and fragrant I had to stop and photograph them. As I processed the photo for posting I could smell their potent fragrance.

Water Droplet

It rained and snowed pellets this morning. Rain collected on a leaf of dutchman breeches to form a water droplet. This beautiful leaf supports one of our environments most valuable and fragile assets.

Denim Day

I came across an article on JS Online regarding a Wauwatosa East High School student collecting 1,050 pairs of jeans for Denim Day. The project is to raise awareness of sexual assault and the dangers of victim blaming. I drove to Tosa to photograph this cause. Imagine 1,050 pairs of jeans attached to fencing on the grounds of the school. This photo hardly captures the scene.

Striped Squills

I enjoyed another early morning walk through our yard to check out what is in bloom. The stripe squills are looking pretty perky this year.

Bit of Nature

What a beautiful day. I took a quick walk through the woods before going to work this morning. Seemed appropriate to capture a bit of nature. Pay attention to mother earth, see the beauty and detail of her majesty, pay her back and tend to her. Happy Earth Day!

Urban Art 2

I had the best day. My husband and I were out driving around and stopped to check out Bay View Park along South Lake Drive. We discovered walking/bike paths that took us down to the Lake Michigan shoreline. While walking along the beach we found concrete walls covered with the most amazing graffiti. This style of art needs to be shared.

Urban Art

Several weeks ago I was out scouting for my photo of the day and came across a stopped train on the Soo Line in Pewaukee. The brilliant colors of the graffiti painted on some of the cars stopped me in my tracks. I made my way to get a closer shot of the graffiti. Just as I was about to start taking photos the train jerked forward and off it went. I had to back off and wait for another time. Today was that day. I took a chance that the train cars would be there today. As we drove down Duplainville Road the train was making it's way down the tracks and stopped. I was able to get my photo of the day.

Turbulence

Winter is not over, more cold weather, snow, sleet and rain. Colliding weather systems are creating fast moving skies.

Euphorbia

Euphorbia - it's common name "donkey tail spurge" is an evergreen like. It has sprawling stems of spiraling leathery grey-blue leaves. Soon they will be covered with clusters of chartreuse-yellow flowers.

Camouflage

Nature is unusual. I believe this is a dried seed pod from a catalpa tree.

The Lonely Bud

There was a break in the weather. I made a dash outdoors to capture my photo of the day. The daffodils stood out of the many choices I had.

Art in Bloom

Walked through the Art in Bloom exhibit at the Art Museum today. The floral arrangement is complementary to the painting in the background. Love how the two seem to blend together. It was a good time with crowds of people out and about.

Here Comes the Sun

What a day... Never quite sure what the day was going to bring. Mid morning I ran outside with my camera to catch a glimpse of the sun.

Rain Drops

We have had the most unusual spring weather, cold and rainy. Yards in the area are underwater. The springs flowers are slow to bloom because it's been so cold. Rain drops continue to fall.

Moving Forward

Today is special to me, it's day 100. 100 days of posting a photo!

I had decided that a photo of Pewaukee Lake would be in order once the ice was gone. The wind and rain carried it way today. It was not the best day for outdoor photography, but it had to be because it was the first day of open water.

Hoya Flower

I received cuttings of hoya plant from my Grandmother about 15 years ago. They were planted, nurtured along the way and continue to flourish. A hoya is a subtropical plant with the most beautiful flowers. They are sweetly scented and produce abundant nectar.

Pussy Willows

I went on a hunt for pussy willows today. They are my favorite spring time bloom. We hiked through the Hartland Ice Age Wetland: Hartland Marsh-John Muir Overlook. Success - they are looking good.

Quilting

I joined a group of ladies at Fox River Congregational Church today to help create quilts. One of the quilters brought her vintage 1948 Singer Feather weight sewing machine for us to use. What a great little gem to sew with.

Marsh Grass

I took a walk through John Henes Park along Green Bay. Burrr... it was cold walking along the shoreline - 32 degrees and it's April 5th. Could not go home without photographing marsh grass - it's everywhere. The conditions seemed right - the sky and sun.

Bay Beach Brown

I went to Schloegel's Bay View Restaurant for dinner tonight located along Green Bay. While walking along the beach I picked up a pocket full of beach glass. It was the golden hour and truly the beach debris photographed warm and golden.

American Spirit

While waiting at a stop light I started watching the motion of this flag. It was a breezy day and this huge flag was flapping in the wind. I decided then it was going to be my photo of the day.
